Roadshow: Archival Knowlege Centre

The National Archives of Hungary are setting up an Archival Knowledge Centre within our project: A further means to fuse institutions and users. It will serve as best practice model for further organizations of such setups. The Archival Knowledge Centre will be set up in the research room of the National Archives where a certain amount of computers will give free access to archival databases.

Currently, it is widely common that the users of these types of setups (which are only accessible locally) are left on their own to figure out the database’s potential. With the Archival Knowledge Centre, staff members will be at the users’ disposal to explain the usage and functions of said databases. Users will proactively be guided and supported and the information transfer optimized.

To promote this helpful Centre, the National Archives of Hungary starts a roadshow campaign: archival experts will tour the country and introduce the services of the National Archives. From Hungaricana, to the Hungarian research website ADTPLUS, archival finding aids and online databases with parish registers. This way the National Archives addresses a variety of user communities and lowers the threshold of approaching archives.
