In Piikkiö, a small town outside of Turku, more than 3000 images from private collections documenting local and regional history could be gathered and will be made accessible for the public with the help of 2-3 topotheques. The event spurred great interest in neighbouring municipalities that wish to open up topotheques as well. Also, some local heritage societies approached the National Archives of Finland – in charge of coordinating the establishment of topotheques throughout Finland – asking to loan their scanners in order to be able to digitized images independently and set up their own topotheques.
