The Historical Ecclesiastical Archive of Bizkaia (AHEB-BEHA) organizes an “Adventures in archives” in cooperation with the Txomin Agirre Ikastola of Biscay – a school that teaches in the Basque language.
Within the three day school programme “Ondorra: monuments, churches, seashore and history” the Ikstola visits the AHEB-BEHA with 17 pupils and their teachers. At the archives, the pupils will have the chance to discover the village of Ondorra through archival material and docuemtns. In a first step, a family tree with the help of the Baptist records of two of the most significance people born in the village: Txomin Agirre, priest and famous writer in the Basque language (1864-1920) and name giver to the Ikastola, and the famous tenor Pedro María Unanue (1814-1846). Additionally, the pupils will learn about the history of the village with the help of old photographs from the early 20th century, kept at the AHEB-BEHA – a playful approach to recognizing locations, geographical landmarks, buildings etc.
