capture1Városliget is the City Park located in the 14th district of Budapest near the city centre and is a favourite destination for both locals and tourists.
It is one of the first public parks of the world. Many personal memories are bound up with the ’Liget’ – as the locals say. The City Park was the main venue of the 1896 millennium celebrations of Hungary.
The City Park’s manifold attractions include the Budapest Zoo, several museums, the Vajdahunyad Castle, the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the Municipal Circus, the ice-skating ring, the lake with boats for rent and the also internationally famous Gundel Restaurant – all making up it’s overall popularity.

The park’s main entrance is through Heroes’ Square, one of Hungary’s World Heritage sites. With its rich flora and fauna, historic sites the ever changing Városliget has been a place for relaxation, sport, culture and tourism for nearly two hundred years.
With the help of photos, documents and relics the Városliget topotheque aims to illustrate and record the changes, the past and the present for the future. The material shown in this topotheque is partly directly provided from Városliget.
